Polymer systems more and more intensively fill
the shelves of plumbing stores, manufacturers' catalogs, building projects,
etc. This is due to numerous benefits. Compared to metal systems. Weight,
transportation, price and, very importantly, ease of installation. What is the
"plastic" loses the "metal" so it is in temperature
resistance and in time of operation. A significant lack of installation is
compensated by modern press fittings for metal pipes. Today we will talk about
the reviving systems of metal pipelines.
Pict.1 Stainless stell press fittings of Geberit |
Types
It depend on the material of the pipes and
fittings. There are 4 main types of systems on the market:
- copper;
- carbon steel;
- stainless steel;
- CuNiFe.
The choice of material depends on the
application. The only exceptions are the latest stuff. He has a narrow
"specialization". It is used in systems that are in contact with seawater.
Therefore, I will consider
further 3 main types.
Pict.2 Metal pipe systems. From left to right: stainless steel, cooper, carbon steel |
Scope of use
This question is quite broad and depends not so
much on the material of the pipes and fittings, but on the type of coating, the
material of the sealing rings and the manufacturer.
The most "omnivorous" - stainless
steel system (see tab. 1). A little inferior to her copper pipes and fittings.
Galvanized pipe systems cover an even smaller
area. It’s worth remembering that galvanized fittings and pipes should not be used
for drinking water supply systems!
Tab.1 Application area |
If we talk about heating, then with the help of
such systems the boiler equipment is being tied. Where the temperature regimes
at the maximum, no polypropylene will not last long. But metal systems - yes.
Range
Within a system of one material, there may be
several subsystems. Take for example Geberit product range. The stainless steel
Mapress Geberit system is divided into 5 subspecies depending on the material
of the seals. It affects the scope. Technical parameters (pressure,
temperature) also differ. For ease of identification, different seals have an
excellent color (see tab.2).
Tab.2 Characteristics of seal |
Other manufacturers may have other colors. In
most cases, for example, viton (FKM) has a different, more popular color —
green (Conex Banninger, Kan-therm, Viega, etc.)
The range of sizes for almost all companies is
in the range from 12 to 108 mm.
I will write more about the differences in the
following materials.
Producers
The bulk of the companies producing such
products are European manufacturers. Market leaders are Sanha, Viega (Germany),
Geberit (Switzerland) and KAN-Therm (Poland). Other manufacturers include Conex
Banninger, Frabo, RM, Eurotubi and Valtec.
By the way, it must be say that the products of
these companies are not all interchangeable. So, as for the press systems of
metal-polymer pipes, a tool with “sponges” is need to create a joint. So as you
may have guessed, the profile of these sponges is different. The main types are
M-profile (Geberit, Kan-Therm, Eurotubi, RM) and V-profile (Viega, Conex
Banninger, Valtec). Frabo has in its assortment a system of one and another
profile. Sanha make universal fittings.
Pict.3 Overwiev of market |
I will discuss the types of systems, materials,
differences in profiles and manufacturers in the following articles. Follow my facebook, telegram or subscribe to the newsletter on the site - hwapp85.blogspot.com.
